Case Study · Enwave
A low-carbon furniture package for a low-carbon company
16 York Street, Toronto · 15,546 sq ft
Enwave is a pioneer in sustainable district energy — heating and cooling downtown Toronto with deep lake water. When they built their new Toronto headquarters, every finish and every piece of furniture needed to stand up to the same standard. Verve ran the full furniture specification, sourcing product by embodied carbon, recycled content, and end-of-life recyclability — while keeping the floorplate flexible enough to flex with a changing hybrid team.

01
Every specification had to document recycled content, FSC sourcing, low-VOC finishes, and end-of-life recyclability. No greenwashing — numbers only.
02
Workstations that could shrink during a dense week and expand during a growth year — without a single invoice for replacement product.
03
Sustainable product at a commercial price point — proof that low-carbon and mid-market aren’t a contradiction.

We specified a benching system that can shrink to 48″ during dense periods or expand to 72″ for senior staff — on the same leg structure, with the same cable tray. Enwave can densify or open up without a single new purchase order. The boardroom table came in at 43% pre-consumer recycled content.
Lounge and kitchen seating was specified in FSC-certified wood frames and recycled-plastic shells. Acoustic panels and baffles: 60% recycled content, 100% recyclable. Every fabric, every finish, every foam chosen against a published chemical list — and the whole package documented in a submittal pack that the sustainability team could hand straight to the board.

The whole package was designed so that rooms can flex into breakout or team spaces without additional capex. A meeting room becomes a project room becomes a quiet room — on the same furniture, with the same power spine. The most sustainable product is the product you don’t replace.
A furniture package that aligns line-for-line with Enwave’s environmental mandate — and flexes with the team year after year. On time, on budget, and fully documented for the board.
